10 Statements Golfers Love to Hear

Golf is as much of a mental game as it is a physical effort on the course. The average golfer has negative thoughts that creep into their mind, whether when they miss the putt or score over par. If you know a downhearted golfer, here are the top 10 statements to help cheer them up.
  1. “That’s good!” - When someone has a close shot and performs well under pressure, be sure to compliment them. Inside they’re usually anything but calm!
  2. “It’s non-counting” - When you play in horrible weather conditions and ruin your handicap only to hear your friends say proclaim, the game is non-counting.
  3. “You’re still in” - Someone makes a lousy shot out of bounds, but you make sure to pat them on the back. Comebacks are possible!
  4. “You had a shot there” - You miss a three-foot putt and announce the score to your partner on the next hole. They mishear you and think it’s actually one better in your favor, but after some investigative work, the truth comes out - you had a shot there.
  5. “I’ll pick you up” - When you need to enjoy some beverages out on the course with friends, and they offer to pick you up and be DD.
  6. “Your honor” - Being silly and offering someone a high-powered nod.
  7. “Here it is!” - You’ve been combing through the rough, peering in bushes and suddenly someone emerges and announces they’ve found your ball.
  8. “I’ve picked up” - When you’re facing an impossible shot, your partner is still searching for their ball and emerges later with it in hand. Meanwhile, you declare, “I’ve picked up! It’s your hole.”
  9. “It’s a free drop” - Your ball is nestled close to a tree trunk, and you have zero chance of getting a full shot. Just on the other side of the trunk is a stake - meaning the drop is free!
  10. “The course is open” - Because no two games of golf are identical, Lam’s Golf Links is always open.
